Juergen Eckhardt, MD, MBA

EVP, Head of Business Development & Licensing (BD&L) at Bayer, and Head of Leaps by Bayer

Dr. Juer­gen Eck­hardt served as Metagenomi’s chair­per­son of the board from Sep­tem­ber 2020 to Feb­ru­ary 2024. In addi­tion to being Head of Bayer’s Busi­ness Devel­op­ment & Licens­ing, he is Head of Bayer’s strate­gic invest­ment unit, Leaps by Bay­er. He has been a ven­ture investor since 2002 and has served on more than 25 com­pa­ny boards.

Pre­vi­ous­ly, Dr. Eck­hardt was a man­age­ment con­sul­tant and Asso­ciate Part­ner at McK­in­sey, where he was a mem­ber of McKinsey’s Health­care Lead­er­ship Team. He began his career as a radi­ol­o­gist at the Uni­ver­si­ty Hos­pi­tal of Basel, Switzer­land. Dr. Eck­hardt received his MD from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Basel and his MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France.
