Brian C. Thomas, PhD

Dr. Bri­an C. Thomas is Founder and for­mer CEO of Metageno­mi, Inc. He cur­rent­ly serves as chair­per­son of the board of direc­tors of Haya Ther­a­peu­tics. Dr. Thomas spent over two decades in aca­d­e­m­ic research at UC Berke­ley, pio­neer­ing in the field of metage­nomics. He has been cit­ed over 18,000 times, as well as being list­ed as an inven­tor on numer­ous patents.

Dr. Thomas start­ed Metageno­mi after see­ing the need for dis­rup­tion in the gene edit­ing space and the poten­tial of metage­nomics to solve crit­i­cal prob­lems fac­ing mankind. By min­ing genomes recov­ered from unknown life forms found in nat­ur­al envi­ron­ments, he real­ized the poten­tial of devel­op­ing new gene edit­ing tech­nolo­gies that could be use­ful for treat­ing genet­ic disease.

Dr. Thomas holds both a BS in Cel­lu­lar and Mol­e­c­u­lar Biol­o­gy and a PhD in Bio­chem­istry from The Uni­ver­si­ty of Kansas, and his post­doc­tor­al research was com­plet­ed at UC Berkeley.
